As part of An Taisce’s Green Schools Programme, the children of St Maries of the Isle Primary School, along with their leaders and the winder community, are working towards earning our seventh flag.
The latest flag we are hoping to earn is the Global Citizenship Energy Flag.
The theme gives us the chance to revise our energy flag and to look into issues surrounding energy use globally.
Our committee includes pupils from third to sixth class who work tirelessly to promote saving energy in the school.
Our class energy monitors make sure there is no waste of energy in the classrooms. Computers, whiteboards and lights are turned off when they are not in use.
Activities we have done over the last two years include:
- Junior Infants and sixth class collaborative art
- Green Schools bulletin board
- Fast Fashion workshop
- Art competitions
- Energy checks
- Action Day – No tech Thursday
- Global goals activities
- Researching climate change
While working towards this flag, the school is also keeping on top of other flags – litter and waste, water, energy, biodiversity and travel.
