Chess Club

Mr. Hurley has been running chess club in the school this year, which has proven to be a big hit with many of the older children.

Chess club takes place every Thursday and will resume again in February 2023, starting after school and finishing at 3.10pm.

The school took part in the Ficheall Chess Tournament on January 18 and represented the school very impressively, securing a place at the Munster Championships.

St. Maries of the Isle choir rehearses on Wednesdays throughout the year from 2.20pm to 3.10pm and is led by Mr. Farrell. This club is an opportunity for your child to develop a love of singing and to be part of a group of children who share that passion.

The choir is open to all students in 3rd to 6th class and there is no audition required. We rehearse and sing a variety of songs from different genres including pop, musical theatre and even songs in other languages. We also practice singing and performing techniques.

We believe that every child should have the opportunity to express themselves through singing and we look forward to having your child join us!

Mr. Scully runs a basketball club every Friday after school for 5th and 6th class students.

The lessons last one hour and take place in the fantastic sports facility at neighbouring school St Al’s, which is a short walk from us.

The school team are aiming to take part in the Cispheil na mBunscoil tournament in 2023.

Miss Lynch takes the children of 2nd class for art lessons in her classroom every Wednesday.

The lessons take place just after school and finish at 3.15pm.

The children learn how to draw and how to make cartoons as well as taking part in a variety of seasonal activities.

Mr. Barry is running guitar lessons for 5th and 6th class students in the school once again in 2023.

Guitar lessons take place every Thursday after the school day ends. Ukelele has also been incorporated into the classes and is a gentle introduction for children to string instuments.

The children have already completed two six week blocks of lessons before Christmas and will continue their learning in the New Year.
