About our School

St Maries of the Isle is a co-educational primary school in the heart of Cork City.

Founded in 1892, we are one of the oldest schools in the city and we are very proud of our long and rich history.

Today, St Maries of the Isle is a vibrant, modern and child-centred school catering for boys and girls, with over 300 students in total.

We have a Catholic ethos but give due recognition to all other religions and have a diverse, multicultural student population.

Set in the shadow of St Finn Barre’s Cathedral and a hugely historical part of the city, we are within walking distance of Cork City centre.

We are also close to the Mercy Hospital, The Bon Secours Hospital, UCC, the Tindall Institute and several other large employers in the city.

We have four Autism Classes and a newly-established Nurture Room,

We are proud to offer a range of extra-curricular activities to students, including chess, basketball, ukulele, guitar, art, choir and athletics.

In addition, we offer two after school care services for children, as well as a daily Homework Club.

Each child in the school is provided with a hot lunch, which can be selected from a menu on an app, every day of the week. We also provide healthy snacks such as fruit and cheese for children.

We have two after-school care providers, St Anne’s Day Nursery and Sherpa. There is a cost involved in both services. More details on after-school care services here
